Seattle Opera Rap "The Rhymes of Hoffmann" Miss Seattle 2014 Kimball Gainor invites you to experience the many forms of "creative swag" to be enjoyed in Seattle, including "Tales of Hoffmann." I hosted and wrote “Hapa Stories,” is a seven-minute film segment about growing up mixed-race in the Asian/Pacific Islander community produced by Sunny Wonder Media and commissioned by the City of Bellevue. I hope to contribute to the dialogue about the word "hapa" and contribute to awareness of the growing mixed-race Asian community in the U.S. and beyond. I hope to encourage others to embrace the cultures, languages, foods and ancestors who have made us who we are. I first became inspired by Kip Fulbeck’s “Hapa Project” exhibit at the Japanese American National Museum. Later, I added my story to the online forum, Hapa Voice. When Kevin Henry at the City of Bellevue asked if I was interested in doing a short film, I jumped at the chance, despite that, as a print journalist, I never thought I’d try my hand at anything that involved a video camera.
Moderator, Reaching Diverse Audiences through the media
City of Bellevue Event I moderated a panel discussion featuring journalists of color in a series targeted at helping citizens, businesses, non-profits and community groups successfully craft and present their messages to diverse audiences. The event was coordinated by the City of Bellevue Diversity Department and Diversity Coordinator, Kevin Henry on April 10, 2013. |
